#103 TUESDAY SCOOP... 5 healthy meal delivery services
For 10/10 nutrition, even if you struggle to cook...
*Apologies to my international readers, these are UK-specific recommendations today
1/ Although, saying that, Calo first launched in the Middle East before heading to British shores in March. The app is super easy to navigate—you input things like dietary preferences and nutrition goals, and the information is used to cook up a tailored plan (that you can easily tweak if you don’t like the sound of a suggested dish) starting from £11 per day and delivered across the UK. Unlike some meal delivery packages I’ve tried over the years, this is as delicious as it is seamless…
2/ If you’re after a meal delivery service that’s more specifically health-conscious, then I can’t recommend Frive enough—prices of which begin from £35 per week and come with UK-wide delivery. They focus on natural, whole foods (with no artificial ingredients or UPFs) in the dishes dropped at your door, that have also been given the nutritionist seal of approval. As with Calo, you simply heat up the meals in a matter of minutes in the microwave in the trays they have been delivered in. You know what that means? No. Washing. Up.
3/ Riverford (who are all about the organic life, in case you’re unacquainted) take a slightly different approach. Their recipe boxes allow you to scratch that urge to cook in a way that I like—meaning there’s no need to schlep around a supermarket for particular ingredients or spend time measuring them out (yep, I know I’m a princess). Want more free rein? They also deliver fruit and vegetable boxes, to which you can add other kitchen essentials like eggs, butter and yoghurt. So, if you live in an area of the UK where certain organic items are hard to come by (for example, I’ve been told bread can be elusive), then this is a handy solution…
4/ My boyfriend introduced me to the wonders of HelloFresh, which he enlisted to wean himself off Deliveroo. Like Riverford, they serve up a range of recipe boxes with your health in mind (working out as little £1.62 per person a go, with next-day delivery across the UK). He finds the app super straightforward to use—including allowing him to select specific dishes and skip a week if he’s away. It’s encouraged him to get out of his comfort zone with cooking certain meals, and the pre-portioned ingredients make the process a breeze. Exactly what is craved after a crazy day…
5/ Kurami is the meal delivery service (only to London, FYI) that’s all about gut health. They pack more than a hundred plant varieties into their dishes each week, which are also free from gluten, dairy or refined sugars if that’s on your agenda. I like the fact that, in a world of endless options, there are only three ‘meal pathways’ to choose between (based on target daily calories). Rather than the fortune you’re probably spending popping out for a lunch that’s lacking in the nutrition department (or the time spent waiting in line at Farmer J or Atis), I think it would be seriously smart to pack one of their dishes for ‘office days’ instead…
