A little while ago, one Saturday morning, I was listening to a breathy voice note from a friend. She was walking at pace in order to be on time for her workout. But rather than hot-footing it to a HIIT studio, the gym to lift weights or a park for a scenic run, her exercise of choice was a group tennis lesson. ‘A tennis lesson?’ I remember thinking, admiring how it was giving serious chic Wimbledon/ The Hamptons. However, I couldn’t also help but note the irony in how 15 years ago, at school, we would have had to be persistently coaxed into practicing our serve during PE. Now, my friend was willingly spending her weekend paying for the same experience (albeit in Lululemon, rather than a uniform sky blue polo and navy shorts). Yet she was, in fact, ahead of the game when it comes to the 2023 vibe shift in fitness that’s been slowly but surely changing how you break a sweat.
