#86 TUESDAY SCOOP... 5 fake tanners that help me look human
If these dreary days mean you're in the market for a subtle glow-getter...
1/ I’ve been slathering This Works Perfect Legs Gradual Tan onto my body (contrary to its name, it’s not just for your pins) in recent weeks and wow has it made me feel a whole lot better. It contains brightening vitamin C and moisturising shea butter as well as a blend of caramel and DHA for a nice golden colour that I’ve found to be streak-free thus far…
2/ The Tan Luxe Super Glow Hyaluronic Self-Tan Serum has been part of my skincare regime for years. I never got on well with the OG Tan Luxe The Face, but a drop or two of this other product from the brand in my regular facial moisturiser a couple of times a week and I look like I’ve had the most stellar night’s sleep. One little bottle also lasts an age too…
3/ The prime thing I love about the Lazy Tan Self-Tanning Mist is that it is non-comedogenic, which means it won’t clog pores if you are (like me) prone to face and body breakouts. It also dries in seconds if you’re desperate to get dressed and gradually builds a natural-looking tan over the space of three days, making it ideal if you’ve got an upcoming event in the calendar that you want to look a bit less pasty for, but are cautious about recreating Ross’ tan from Friends…
4/ However, for faster results (although, from experience, that does mean you need to take extra care) I use St Tropez Self Tan Express Bronzing Mousse. I exfoliate in the shower (especially elbows and knees), dry off and then apply it in circular motions using a tanning mitt—before leaving it on for one to two hours. Even less time? I swear by St Tropez Self Tan Instant Glow which is like ‘foundation’ for the body and doesn’t transfer onto clothes…
5/ There’s been increased discussion in recent years about how ‘clean’ certain beauty products are, with a family member of mine a huge fan of the Think Dirty app that flags potentially problematic ingredients that it is claimed when absorbed transdermally may affect long-term health. This isn’t the place for a full deep-dive, but if this is of interest, then the organic Tropic Sun Drops—that give your face a lovely sun-kissed glow—have the green light…

Really helpful piece, which gives me more confidence to maybe take the self-tan plunge this year. Though careful doses of real sunshine are unbeatable for all the other benefits to health (not just Vitamin D as most think) in addition to a natural sun kissed look.
You got me on the hyaluronic version of the Tan-Luxe and (having formerly had a love-hate relationship with the OG product) I've never looked back from the infinitely more hydrating option! Now to move on to the others... thanks for writing. Always admire your glow, Lisbon-honed or otherwise!
