#92 TUESDAY SCOOP... 5 online Pilates platforms I'm currently loving
How I turn my living room into a studio (and feel the burn for a fraction of the price)...
1/ I’ve been obsessed with The Pilates Class since my friend Mariana introduced me circa 2021. Aussie founder and instructor Jacqui Kingswell has a way of making every workout glide by in no time at all (even if it’s a killer)—with an on-demand library that’s freshened-up weekly. Many of the sessions are bodyweight only, although I’ve been amping up the intensity with some of these piece of home workout equipment at her direction. I love a workout platform with a free trial offer so you can see for yourself if it’s your vibe, and TPC lets you dip in at no cost for seven days…
2/ Now, Reformer Pilates may be the all the rage right now, but I love the Sam Deville Pilates philosophy of bringing its principles and intensity to the humble mat. Sam has cultivated a strong client base at her studio in London’s Wimbledon, but in January launched an online offering that allows you train from wherever. Shout out to the her upbeat, encouraging style of teaching that gets you pushing yourself, and her targeted series of various ‘challenges’ on her site—such as sessions for runners, those off skiing or who want to feel more powerful—are a great idea. There’s also a two-week trial available…
3/ Alo, the aspirational athleisure brand of the moment (the allure of which I recently wrote about), is solidifying its presence in the online workout space with the news that Alo Moves is now available on VR in Meta Quest 3. Anyway, I’m sticking to its fantastic regular version—particularly the month-long ‘The Reset’ series which reflects how even Pilates has its limits (you do three weekly sessions, alongside two strength-focused workouts and 8,000 daily steps). There’s also the likes of HIIT, barre and yoga if you want to really mix things up. See for yourself on the two-week free trial…
4/ Credit needs to go to Leandra Medine’s The Cereal Aisle newsletter for bringing The Way to my attention, in which she called Marieva Malo ‘the only Pilates teacher in the world’. The super-cool New York-based instructor initially founded her online platform in lockdown, and has added to its growing library of online workouts ever since. I particularly appreciate the attention she pays to posture and breathing, because I think these essentials can sometimes be forgotten amidst the arrival of trendy things like ‘hot Pilates’ and the ‘Megaformer’. You can sample it for one whole month…
5/ The Women’s Health fitness director Bridie Wilkins recently told me that Pilates By Bryony is a solid part of her routine—and it’s not hard to see why she’s a fan. London-based instructor Bryony Deery has cultivated an extensive library of sessions—ranging from just five up to 45 minutes, and which can be filtered to focus on areas like the ‘core’ and ‘lower body’—that incorporate her six key principles of breath, concentration, control, precision, centre and flow. There is also one new and one live class per week, which isn’t a capability all platforms are able to offer. You can try it out free for seven days…
